Nová Myslivna isn’t just a regular apartment complex, but a thoroughly thought out housing concept that sensitively continues in the tradition of this unique location, where nature meets the city. Architects from the KYZLINK ARCHITECTS studio designed the project with utmost respect not only to the surrounding landscape, but also to the historical context of the location. They discuss their approach to this exceptional residential complex in a new video.
“A unique location, nature, proximity to the city center. It’s really a miracle that we were successful, that we managed to pass all the phases of the permit process. What we’re truly proud of is how we harmonized the entire concept,” says architect and owner of the studio Jan Kyzlink.
The uniqueness of the location had an enormous impact on the approach to construction. The architects decided to preserve its atmosphere and work with its history as well as gain inspiration from it. “Three writers and artists—Mahen, Těsnohlídek, and Vančura—regularly met at Myslivna. They had a favorite pine tree that they would sit under. Although this information is difficult to verify today, we think it left a lasting legacy on the place. As architects, we strived to respect the uniqueness of the location. The motif of a tree is repeated in the verticals, furniture, floors, and common areas,” states architect Zbyšek Sikora.
The architectural design reflects the terrain and natural character of the location. The building fits in organically with the surrounding landscape through its shape, size, and the materials used. Glazed surfaces act as mirrors where one can see the forest, allowing the building to naturally blend in. “By creating contour lines, refracted and irregular shapes, we adapted the ground plan to trace the surrounding forest,” explains architect Petr Pospíšil.
The result will be not just a unique architectural work, but also a place to live in, a place that will offer diversity, communal harmony, and privacy, all while having nature within easy reach. “When Myslivna will be finished, it will be full of life with a diversity of residents, visitors, large and small families, and children. It will breathe new life into the location, new experiences, new memories,” says Zbyšek Sikora about his vision for Nová Myslivna. “The complex is one-of-a-kind. I believe that our work on the project has taught us a great deal,” concludes Jan Kyzlink.
